Chapter 18

Shark, ray, turtle

We were quite satisfied with our expensive experiences on Lady Elliot Island, but it turned out to be just the beginning. We decided to visit Heron Island, which is also located in the southern part of the Great Barrier Reef. During the boat ride, they play a David Attenborough documentary, and you automatically get into the right mood. I love it. Just like on our last island trip, you’re given a snorkel set. We had barely put on our diving masks before we encountered the first sea creatures: Blacktip sharks, Manta rays, Stingrays, and Eagle rays. We also witnessed another sea turtle laying eggs on the beach, and that never gets old. The island is filled with birds, and yes, you can count on getting pooped on. But hey, it must be a sign of good luck!
