Chapter 19

East Coast of Australia

During our trip up the east coast in December, we stumbled upon a few natural gems that, of course, had to be explored. Unfortunately, the Britz had to stay behind, as some destinations required a smaller car, a boat, fresh legs, or a 4WD.

K'gari offered beach racing with a Jack Sparrow look-alike driver who was very fun and great at spotting dingoes. In Bowen, we ate mangoes and explored the Mother Beddock Loop. A really cool trail that almost felt like a scene from The Flintstones. Christmas Eve was celebrated on Hamilton Island. A nearly deserted hike in 35-degree heat, combined with a secret beach and the most stunning view, was on the menu. The Daintree Rainforest is the world’s oldest tropical rainforest and home to the earth's largest variety of plants and animals. We were lucky enough to see one of its more infamous residents: the crocodile.
